Plus, Caroline finds a tiny bit of hope when it comes to saving her mother — with the help of Stefan’s support, of course.
Right off the bat, we learned that Kai (Chris Wood) took Elena (Nina Dobrev) to practice his magic on her before the merge. To no surprise, he’s pretty good at it, while Jo on the other hand is not. And that means one life will be risked.
Damon & Elena’s Chemistry Continues To Be Ridiculous
While Jo did pull off the invisibility spell long enough to get into the school with Damon (Ian Somerhalder) to save Elena, once there was three of them, she could no longer handle it, and almost passes out. Of course, Kai sees that happen and with his speed and magic combo, he seems to be impossible to stop; after putting a wooden rod through Elena, and basically knocking out Damon, he grabs Jo to run. But who saves the day? Who else but the two humans? Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) comes swooping in with his bow and arrow, while Alaric follows behind with an injection to the neck.
Just like that, Damon and Elena are reunited — he pulls the rod out of her, saving her life for the umpteenth time, and she even has the heart to trick him and pretend she’s dying. Naturally, he falls for it but it just leads to an emotional hand-holding moment, but no kiss, thanks to Alaric’s interruption.
Unfortunately, Alaric’s happiness may be short-lived — after seeing how not ready Jo is and how strong Kai is, if they merge, she’s out. But he has faith. And now Liv and Luke are both on board to help train Jo.
“Here’s to women who make crazy, messed up decisions, and loving them more for it.” Damon always makes the best toasts with Alaric.
Meet Uncle Stefan
As for Caroline (Candice Accola), it was experiment time. She headed to an a hospital near Duke to find an expert, to learn the truth about Sheriff Forbes’ possibilities. There, she compelled the doctor to tell her the truth and she told her the bad news: the doctors back home were doing everything they could. The doctor also revealed to her that she had a patient going through the same thing. For Caroline, that was the perfect person to feed her blood on.
As for Stefan (Paul Wesley), he finally went along for the ride to keep her company, but also to head to Duke to see Sarah Salvatore, his fourth removed niece who he had been watching over ever since Damon killed her mother. Of course, his trip is interrupted by a very nosy Enzo, and Stefan comes clean about the secret he’s been hiding — which we assume means that soon it will no longer be a secret (since those don’t exist on TVD).
The Fate Of Sheriff Forbes
Much to Caroline’s surprise, she sees the patient later on that day that she gave her blood too — and he is up, walking around and has an appetite again. She begs Stefan to believe in her and like a good friend, he agrees. Of course, upon returning home, they have a hand-holding-moment on the porch (and you could cut the sexual tension with a knife), but mostly it was the moment we see that they finally have their friendship back.
However, Caroline’s next move will change it all. She headed over to tell her mom the good news — but we see what’s going on at the hospital. That patient is n longer well, and the blood actually sped up his death. Caroline pleads with her mom (and thanks for making us cry, Candice!) that she needs her — and her mom agrees. So, she feed her her blood.\
