‘The Nightly Show,’ which is replacing ‘The Colbert Report,’ premieres on Comedy Central on Jan. 19 and fans are eager to see what the new show will bring to the table. ‘Nightly Show’ host Larry Wilmore divulged what audiences can expect!
Fans were thrilled upon the announcement that Stephen Colbert would be taking over as host of The Late Show when David Letterman retired— that was until they realized it meant Stephen would have to vacate his post as host of The Colbert Report. Luckily though, the 11:30 slot is in good hands with Larry Wilmore and his replacement show, The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore. Check out what Larry had to say about his new show!
‘The Nightly Show’ Premiere: Larry Wilmore Interview
Fans of Comedy Central faux-news shows will recognize Larry Wilmore from his position as “Senior Black Correspondent” on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Now though, the comedy writer is stepping into the spotlight in a major way, and he’s a little scared!
Ahead of the Jan. 19 premiere of The Nightly Show, Larry sat down with the New York Times to discuss his new gig. He said the show will be “driven by news, timeliness and content… That’s a little scary.”
Despite his fears, Larry insisted that “I’m going to tell you how I feel. What, am I going to get fired? Well, we had a good run,” said Larry. “At least we got to talk some trash for a while.”
Larry Will Bring The Funny
While Larry said he couldn’t guarantee what exactly viewers can expect to see, he did vow that no matter what, the show will be funny.
“I’m not just taking positions because they’re funny,” said Larry ”What’s funny is generated from how I actually feel about something.”
Will you be tuning into The Nightly Show? What do you think of Larry as a replacement for Stephen?
