Could Preacher James (Jim Parrack) be telling the truth? Is Rachael’s (Kathleen Munroe) baby really a “dark child” sent to destroy the world? Let’s dig in to tonight’s insane episode of Resurrection!
‘Resurrection’: Preacher James Threatens Rachael’s Baby — Season 2 Episode 12 Recap
Tonight’s episode of Resurrection kicks off with all of the returned people in Arcadia falling into a mysterious trance that forces them to gather outside the place where Rachael is staying. No one seems to know why the trance happened, or whether the returned were under the control of someone or something.
Preacher James goes to see Rachael and she explains that she woke up the night before with a contraction and saw the returned people standing in a trance outside her window but she has no idea what brought them there.
While in Rachael’s room, Preacher James notices a flower — the same one that he and Marty saw in their vision of the field!
After they leave, Preacher James tells Marty that everyone has a role to play here, not just the two of them, and that it’s up to them to figure out what Rachael’s role is. The next scene shows the preacher on his knees, praying to God for guidance and being tormented by strange images. “It’s going to be tough, Lord, but I will not fail you,” Preacher James says as he bows his body down to reveal a huge tattoo of a tree on his back.
Meanwhile, at the government facility, all of the returned are being tested but the officials refuse to tell them why. Margaret Langston (Michelle Fairley) stands up for everyone and demands that someone explain why they’re being tested. Margaret goes to see Marty’s go-to gal at the facility and says she wants to leave. But the woman says the facility is on lockdown because of the trance, which affected all of the returned at the facility as well.
Preacher James starts asking questions about Margaret and her ability to make the returned disappear. He goes to see Margaret at the facility and agrees to help her escape if she tells him how she made her former daughter-in-law Barbara disappear.
‘Resurrection’: Preacher James Says The Apocalypse Is Near
Marty goes to see his contact at the facility and she reveals that they’re testing the returned to try to find out how many more people will return in the future. She believes that a mass return of unprecedented proportions is about to happen and that there will likely something that will trigger it but they don’t know what. While they’re talking, an employee rushes in and call them down to a large room where the returned were being held — and every single returned person appears to be dead!
Preacher James has apparently poisoned them but it’s unclear why. Marty, panicked, calls home to Arcadia to warn Rachael, who is on the verge of giving birth, that she may be in danger. Everyone moves her to Lucille (Frances Fisher) and Henry’s (Kurtwood Smith) house for safety.
Meanwhile, Preacher James had fled the facility with Margaret and he tells her she has to help him disappear Rachael because her future child is a “dark child,” “the anti-Christ.” He says that all of the returned are under the control of a “beast” but Margaret tells him he’s crazy, refuses to help him and then leaves. She then goes to see Jacob (Landon Gimenez) and he tells her that Rachael’s baby is hurting him.
While studying some research, Marty’s contact discovers that she was right about the mass return — and that it will include millions of people!
Marty catches up with Preacher James, who is with the group of returned people that he appeared to have killed. The preacher says he didn’t kill the people, he set them free. He tells Marty that Rachael’s baby is responsible for putting everyone under a trance and says he will do whatever it takes to complete his mission — to prevent the end of the world.
Whoa, this is intense! Next week’s season finale of Resurrection is definitely going to be huge — we can’t wait! Tell us what YOU think, HollywoodLifers — is Preacher James right about Rachael’s baby?
