Kobe Bryant Retiring: Is He Leaving The NBA?
“I’d be lying if I said that it hasn’t crossed my mind,” Kobe tells The Los Angeles Times. “Right now I doubt it … but anything’s possible.”
“My body is hurting like crazy, around the clock, and if I don’t want to do this anymore, I won’t do it,” he continues.
Kobe has one year left on his 2-year, $48.5 million deal, but many worry that he will retire at the end of the season. Kobe is incredibly dedicated to his team, but he can’t help his age catching up with him, and it’s showing on the court too, as he’s taking more frequent rests.
During his current 19th year of playing for the Lakers, he has played 34 of the 41 games this season, but his time is monitored through head coach Byron Scott. Kobe is of course, a fighter on the court, so when he needs to rest it’s to maintain his strength.
“I know everyone is surprised I’m not fighting all this,” Kobe says. “But I’ve changed.”
Kobe Bryant Beats Michael Jordan’s Scoring Record
Even though Kobe may have retirement on his mind, when he does choose to do so he can rest easy knowing he made his mark on basketball history.
