A$AP Mob’s official Twitter account first broke the news of A$AP Yams’ death.
Soon after the news of his sudden death made rounds amongst family, friends and fans, the tributes began pouring in. A$AP Mob posted a photo of the 26-year-old on Instagram with the caption, “ALWAYS STRIVE AND PROSPER. RIP YAMS.”
A$AP Rocky did the same and captioned the picture, “R.I.P YAMS, I LOVE YOU BROTHER.” A$AP Ferg also shared his grief with his followers. He wrote on Instagram, “You will be missed Bro . We done touched a lot of ground together , landed on a lot of different soil!!! You will always be loved & your spirit will live on!!!#asapmob #asapferg #asapworldwide #yams.”
The cause of A$AP Yams’ death has yet to be revealed.
He founded A$AP Mob with A$AP Bari and A$AP Illz in 2007 at just 17 years old, according to MTV. A$AP Yams was one of the influences behind A$AP Rocky’s career. The rapper’s songs “Purple Swag” and “Peso” helped catapult the label to major notoriety.
A$AP Yams was profiled by the New York Times in 2013 and compared him to music moguls like Jay Z and Puff Daddy. In the article, A$AP Rocky praised Yams. “He’s the mastermind behind the scenes,” the rapper said.
