So exciting! Hank the Ballpark Pup, who was once a stray but is now a team mascot, took home the Dog Of The Year award on Thursday, Jan. 15. We’d say that’s a pretty doggone good way to start the new year. Plus, Ian Somerhalder also took home a prize — watch the video here!

Hot diggity dog! Hank the Brewers’ Ballpark Pup won the Dog Of The Year award at the World Dog Awards. (Try saying that three times fast.) Hank, who was once a stray, also rubbed shoulders with Paris Hilton, Terrell Owens and George Lopez during the inaugural event, which aired on The CW on Jan. 15.

The Major League Baseball’s top canine took home the most prestigious award of the night, but other little rascals took home prizes for best in film, top TV dog, and supporting actor to a dog!

In case you were unaware that such an awards show existed, we’ll explain it a bit.

The canine award show, “honors star dogs, everyday dogs and dogs who have become famous ‘on social media,'” The CW said.

During the awards show, which was hosted by comedic actor George Lopez, Paris Hilton and Terrell Owens posed with Hank as he accepted his award.

Luckily, his speech was pretty short — just a few barks!

Our favorite hunky Vampire Diaries actor, Ian Somerhalder, also won an award for dog’s best friend! So sweet. (Watch the video above.)

What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Did the right dog win the top prize? Was George Lopez a great host? And how do you feel about Paris Hilton appearing on the awards show? Tell us how you feel!
