Did you hear? Early in the morning on Jan. 15, nominees for the 87th annual Oscars were announced and there were a ton of surprises, snubs and well deserved recognitions. While we may not know how all the nominees feel, some were nice enough to share their reaction to the big news with us!
Throughout the coming weeks, we’ll probably hear many of this year’s Academy Award nominated actors say that it’s an honor just to be nominated. While that usually feels like a bit of a cop out, this morning, it might just be true! We rounded up some of our favorite reactions so far — check ’em out!
Oscar Nominations Reactions
As soon as the nominations were announced for the 87th Oscars, reactions started rolling in and some of them are pretty great. Let’s get to it!
Emma Stone, who was nominated for her supporting role in Birdman, released a statement and she could barely contain her excitement. “Well this is surreal,” Emma said. “I am so f–king excited. Are you allowed to say f–k- when you’re making a statement for the Oscars? I’m just really f–king- excited.” So are we, Emma!
Fellow redheaded nominee Julianne Moore also expressed her excitement over getting nominated. The star Tweeted “thank you everyone for the congratulations! i am so happy i can barely breathe #makingmyselfdizzy #AcademyAwards”
A Big Day For Hollywood
John Legend, whose song “Glory” from Selma was nominated for best song, pointed out the added layer of meaning for the nomination today. John Tweeted “So grateful for @TheAcademy Award nomination for GLORY!!! On MLK’s birthday!! @SelmaMovie @Common”
Also feeling good about his nomination? Eddie Redmayne, whose portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything helped him score a nod, was grateful. Eddie told Sky News that “it’s an amazing, amazing thing. Suddenly there was a rap on the door, and I stumbled to the door and it was my manager there with a team of people on the phone screaming, which was very exciting… It’s extraordinary!”
Extraordinary is the perfect word to describe all of the Oscar news.
