Naya ruffled more than a few feathers when she said that showering daily is ‘a white people thing’ while guest hosting ‘The View’ on Jan. 13. Now she’s coming clean about her controversial comment on the Jan 14. show.
Naya Rivera’s Shower Comment: Star Apologizes On ‘The View’
Naya got right to the heart of her shower controversy during her second stint guest hosting The View on Jan. 14.
“Yesterday we were talking about a study that says you’re supposed to shower once or twice every three days,” Naya explains in a new clip from the show. “I had an opinion on it that was supposed to be a joke. Apparently it didn’t go over so well.”
“It was supposed to be a joke, but I apologize if anyone was offended,” Naya adds. “However, I’m very excited that it sparked a big conversation about how many times you should shower.”
The star even proudly declared that Ryan Seacrest has decided to “cut back” on his showers thanks to her. Good luck with that, American Idol.
As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, Naya raised eyebrows when she shared her “theory about showering” on The View, saying, “I think that white people shower a lot more than ethnics.”
“I feel like showering more than once a day or every day is such a white people thing,” she added. Sensing the joke wasn’t hitting home, Naya tried to defend herself by saying that her mom is half-black, half-Puerto Rican… but it just got worse from there.
“She showers every day, so I can say this. But I can say that I am now married to a white man [Ryan Dorsey], and he showers a lot. Like, a lot — two, three times a day. I’m like, ‘What are you doing?'”
Yeah. It was awkward.
So HollywoodLifers, do YOU think Naya’s comment was out of line or just a joke gone wrong? Let us know!
