Sex On The First Date

So there you are: On the best first date you’ve had in forever. (Tinder, amiright?) The conversation is great, the vino is flowing, and the sexual tension… well, you’re about three sips of Pinot Grigio away from inviting him over to your place. But will it ruin things? Find out!

It’s fairly safe to say the dating landscape has changed a lot in the past few years—and with this shift, many steadfast dating rules have gone out the window. HollywoodLife.com asked real guys to help put an age-old question to bed: How soon is too soon to sleep with a new guy you’re into?

First Date Sex – Should You Hook Up With Him?

Okay, so there’s good news and bad news. Let’s start with the not-so-awesome news: There are still some guys (read: jerks) who admit that they lose interest in girls they sleep with too early on in the relationship. So, are those judgmental (and quite frankly sexist) dudes reasons to follow the “Wait Three Dates to Do It” rule? Absolutely not.

Here’s why: Sexual chemistry is powerful indicator of your compatibility  with a partner. Many people—men and women—agree that having fireworks in the bedroom is key to a happy, healthy relationship.

“Honestly, first date sex always makes me feel like, ‘That went well, she seems to really like me,’” says Ryan, 26. “I’ve had really awesome relationships come out of those kinds of hookups.”

“I personally wouldn’t think a girl is slutty or easy if she slept with me on a first date, because double standards are ridiculous,” says Tom, 25. “If there is no second date or if it ends really soon after the first date, it’s because of an incompatibility that was revealed at some point. This could be sex-related, sure, if we didn’t click. But it could be literally anything else, like say, not sharing enough similar interests.”

The Bottom Line: If He Likes You, He’ll See You Again

Ultimately, there is no right or wrong number of dates in which it’s okay to bring a guy back to your pad or you crash at his. But what is wrong is a guy who makes you feel bad for deciding to do so. If he’s the right person for you, he’ll want to keep dating you—whether you have sex on date one or 100.
