Well, this is some sad news. It has just been announced that Derek Hough, who has starred on ‘Dancing With The Stars’ since 2007 will not be returning for the show’s upcoming 20th season. But why is the beloved star leaving the series?
Ever since he officially joined the show in season five, Derek Hough has become a fan favorite on Dancing With The Stars. Sadly, ABC has just announced that Derek won’t be returning for the upcoming 20th season. Why exactly is Derek leaving the show? And could he return in a future season? We’ve got answers!
‘Dancing With The Stars’: Derek Hough Leaving
Say it ain’t so! Beloved Dancing With The Stars dancer, Derek, 29, will not be present when the show returns to ABC for its 20th season (!) on March 16. So why would such a fan favorite depart the hit series? For a better gig, of course!
Derek will star in the upcoming New York Spring Spectacular show at Radio City Music Hall. He will play the male lead opposite Nashville star Laura Benanti for the show’s seven-week run.
Well, even though it sucks to see him go, at least we get to watch him perform in an awesome new show!
‘Dancing With The Stars’: Will Derek Ever Return To DWTS?
Although Derek is confirmed to sit the 20th season of Dancing out, no statement has been made as to whether he will return once his Radio City show has concluded.
In the meantime, though, it seems like Derek is really excited about his new job!
“I am ecstatic that I’ll be able to extend my passion for performing to the Great Stage of Radio City Music Hall in New York Spring Spectacular,” Derek said in a statement. He added that the production will be “like nothing [fans] have seen me in before.”
