Yes, you read that right! A series, based on the 2001 cult comedy Wet Hot American Summer, is coming to Netflix (where else?) for eight episodes and we are basically freaking out!
Leave it to Netflix to make our dreams come true yet again. It has just been announced that, 13 years after the film’s release, the online streaming company will produce an eight-episode mini-series of the beloved camp classic. The movie originally starred Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Paul Rudd and so many other famous people that we can’t even keep track. So, we’re obviously wondering, will the original cast be returning for the show?
‘Wet Hot American Summer’: Netflix Producing Series
What a wonderful surprise! After months of rumors and negotiations, Deadline.com is reporting that Wet Hot American Summer has been officially green-lit and has actually already started filming. Better yet, everyone in the A-list cast (most of whom were relatively if not completely unknown when the film was released) are returning!
For those who need a refresher or — gasp! — haven’t seen the hilarious movie, it stars the aforementioned Amy, Bradley and Paul, as well as Elizabeth Banks, Janeane Garofalo, Molly Shannon, Michael Ian Black, David Hyde Pierce, Judah Friedlander and so many more.
We can’t wait to see them all together again!
A Cult Classic
Because of its weirdness and dark sense of humor, Wet Hot American Summer pretty much failed at the box office but it was immediately embraced by a niche audience, and it has remained a cult classic for years.
Set at a Jewish sleep away camp in 1981, the plot basically just documents the counselors’ antics as they prepare for the last day of camp: There’s a wedding, a talent show and a couple of deaths. Like we said, it’s pretty weird.
