Sia Responds To Critics Who Call ‘Elastic Heart’ Video ‘Pedophila’

Not surprisingly, Sia has come under fire for featuring what critics are calling ‘pedophilia’ in her latest music video — and now she’s firing back with an explanation.

Sia, 39, released a music video for her latest hit, “Elastic Heart”, featuring Shia LaBeouf, 28, dancing almost completely naked alongside Maddie Ziegler from Dance Moms who is 17 years his junior. In response to critics and fans who are screaming “pedophilia” about the provocative and modern choreography, Sia has managed to defend the video and reveal it’s true meaning.

Sia Slams Critics For Crying Pedophilia Over ‘Elastic Heart’

At first glance, it’s easy to see how and why some people find Sia’s latest music video completely inappropriate.

Not only is Shia, a grown man, dancing inside a cage alongside a pre-teen girl, but they are scantily clad — him in just a pair of nude-colored briefs, and Maddie in a nude bodysuit.

But, in typical Sia fashion, there is more to this video than meets the naked eye.

“I anticipated some ‘pedophilia!!!’ cries for this video. All I can say is Maddie and Shia are two of the only actors I felt could play these two warring ‘sia’ self states,” the singer wrote on Twitter late at night on Jan. 7.

Then, after providing an explanation for the video and it’s characters, Sia made sure to apologize to those who were offended by her choices.

“I apologize to those who feel triggered by #ElasticHeart My intention was to create some emotional content, not to upset anybody.”

Thankfully, it appears Sia truly took the gracious road by responding with class instead of getting all heated and defensive.

Sia’s ‘Elastic Heart’ Characters: An Interpretation

I am no professional, but I happen to really like Sia’s music video and feel that maybe, just maybe, my interpretation of it might help others see it differently.

As Sia mentioned in her tweets, Maddie and Shia are playing two different versions of her that are at war.

Maddie, although she is tiny and appears fragile, is the hardcore, aggressive, and wild side of Sia. That leaves Shia, who although appears tough and able to defend himself, is the hesitant side, defensive, but somehow also softer and misunderstood.

Nothing about the way Maddie and Shia “battle” each other inside the cage is sexual, either. There is no groping, inappropriate touching, or sexual tension.

Instead, what I see — and again, I am only speaking from my interpretation of the video — is two personalities desperate to merge and work together, but constantly conflicting with each other instead.

What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers — Is Sia’s video promoting pedophilia, or is it just interpretive dance that has been completely misunderstood? Comment below with your thoughts.
