Our favorite design competition is finally back, and the show took a very tropical turn as they crafted resort wear — but like any ‘All Stars’ show, it didn’t go off without a few surprises.
The last time we saw our favorite All Stars bunch, a twist of fate meant they were all safe — but that clearly wouldn’t be the case this time around! The episode begins with the designers grabbing a cup of coffee when a familiar face greets them at the newsstand…and it is Alyssa Milano. A copy of USA Today: Travel jumpstarts their competition.
‘Project Runway All Stars’ Recap — Swimsuits & Resortwear:
When they meet Alyssa she is accompanied by the president of USA Today: Travel and the duo informs the designers that they’ll be designing elegant resortwear that is suitable for a glamorous getaway — now this is getting good. USA Today will also publish a photo, story, and interview on the winner — and the designer will win a customized vacation to the Caribbean!
The twist? They must also design a swimsuit to go under the outfit — and that’s not all! They’re also randomly assigned new models, which is sure to shake them up — but more on that later.
All of the swatches are under the water and the designers are not thrilled about having to dive into the pool — but luckily, the All Stars pool boys are on hand to scoop them out. They will swim down, bring up the lycra, and toss it back in and keep going based on whether or not the designer wants it.
A new model means dealing with a whole new body — and different proportions. Once the models walk into the workroom, you can see it isn’t easy…although some designers don’t seem to flinch! With only a few hours left in the work day, some designers have to totally scrap their looks and come up with something new.
With hardly any time left in the day Samantha discovers that she sewed her jumpsuit together backwards — and her mistake is bound to cost her a lot of time.
I loved the way the swimwear looked as it came down the runway — and it was awesome to watch the judges critique the designs. Overall, the response was fairly positive. Georgina told Michelle she designed the best suit of the day — and I couldn’t agree more! The silhouette and the print was fresh and fun — and unfortunately the same can’t be said about Samantha’s suit! The jumpsuit was well received, but it was her ’80s swimsuit that wasn’t a winner, (and left her in the bottom bunch). Alyssa even said it brought her back to her Who’s The Boss? days — eek.
While they loved some dresses others excelled with the swimwear — specifically Justin and Dmitry. Although Justin was almost sent home in the bottom two in episode 7, he proved to be the comeback kid — the save totally boosted his confidence! Dmitry came in second.
Sam Eliminated From ‘Project Runway All Stars’:
Who wasn’t so lucky? While Michelle’s dress caused the judges to give her a low score, she was safe. Samantha and Jay were in the bottom two — and Sam was sent packing. Jay made it another day in the competition.
What do you think? Did she deserve to get sent home?
