ABC’s new Marvel drama ‘Agent Carter’ premiered on Jan. 6 and it featured heroine Peggy Carter kicking all sorts of butt. The awesome news here is that Peggy is part of a recent surge of powerful women on television, taking names and wasting no time.
Strong and independent women have been taking over the world for, like, ever, but we’re finally seeing that reflected on television. Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) is just the latest, and she’s got us taking stock of all the awesome females we’re seeing these days. From badass working women, to powerful wives who really run the show, let’s take a look at some of the most awesome and almighty ladies currently taking over airwaves. And let’s say a big thank you to Agent Carter for showing off Peggy!
‘Agent Carter’ Premiere: Setting The Bar
Peggy Carter: We have to start with Agent Carter, whose breakthrough onto television basically inspired this post. Though only two episodes of the Avengers-prequel have aired so far, it’s clear already that Peggy will be taking no prisoners in her superhero endeavors. In the first episode alone, we see her track down explosives powerful enough to wipe out a city block, go undercover to take down a voiceless mass murderer and, of course, serve up some very deserved sass to her misogynistic dude coworkers. Captain America who? Exactly.
Olivia Pope: While awaiting the return of Scandal, we’ve had plenty of time to binge every episode for a repeat viewing and Olivia (Kerry Washington) never gets any less awesome. There literally isn’t a problem in the world she can’t solve, while simultaneously killing a power suit ensemble. So what if she needs to unwind with a bit of wine at the end of the day? (Who doesn’t?)
Carrie Matheson: Homeland‘s most recent season was one of its best, in no small part because it focused closely on Carrie (Claire Danes) and what was basically her single-handedly running the CIA and taking out one of the world’s most-wanted terrorists. Oh and she had also just had a baby. Mom goals, much?
Claire Underwood: The anticipation for Netflix’s House of Cards to return in February is almost too much to bear, mostly because we cannot wait to see what the female Underwood (Robin Wright) has in store. Claire’s ambition knows absolutely no bounds and (SPOILER!) now that her husband is president, there is no telling just how she will exert her first-lady power!
Annalise Keating: Another women added to the roster this season, power-lawyer Annalise (Viola Davis) does what must be done, and wastes no time fretting about how. And if you watched that winter finale, you know there are no two words more powerful than when she said, “I’m Not.” Boom!
What do you guys think? Are you happy to see so many awesome ladies on TV? Who else would you add to the list? Let us know!
