Nicholas Sparks has made all of us believe in true love with his 17 romantic novels – nine of which were made into movies. Unfortunately, there is no happily ever after in Nicholas marriage to wife Cathy. Read on to find out what happened!
Nicholas Sparks Divorce: Splits With Wife Cathy
The 49 year old author of numerous best-selling romantic novels including Walk To Remember, Safe Haven, The Lucky One and Message in a Bottle says that despite the split, he and his wife remain friends.
“Cathy and I have separated,” Nicholas tells PEOPLE. “This is, of course, not a decision we’ve made lightly. We remain close friends with deep respect for each other and love for our children. For our children’s sake, we regard this as a private matter.”
The couple, who married in 1989, have three sons and twin daughters between the ages of 12 and 23.
Nicholas Not An Expert At Love
Although his love stories have touched million of hearts, Nicholas has never thought of himself as an expert at relationships.
“I don’t like to give marriage tips,” he told PEOPLE in 2003. “There are people who are probably much better at marriage than I am – they’ve lasted a lot longer. I could probably learn from them.”
Two years ago, Cathy, a former lending-company account executive, explained how the Carolina-based couple attempted to keep their marriage alive.
“We try to go on vacations alone. You need to leave alone. You have to make the effort to leave, take the time. Just go and have fun alone. We do it a few times a year.”
So sad! Looks like Nicholas created one more tear jerker — unfortunately this time it involved has own love story.
