Farrah Abraham, 23, may be stuck with oversized lips for the rest of her life. She recently had an awful reaction after getting lip injections — they’re huge now — and unfortunately, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon tells us there’s a chance it’s not reversible.
“The pictures of Farrah Abraham’s lips are quite impressive. I (as well as plastic surgeons all over the country) do lip injections on a daily basis. There are a few different reasons why this might have happened. The first is a hematoma (or collection of blood that causes a massive swelling). This would be from hitting a blood vessel during the procedure and is essentially reversible. The second is an extremely rare inflammatory response to the FDA approved hyaluronic acid fillers available in the US, and usually reversible,” John Zannis, M.D., a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.
That doesn’t sound so bad. But there’s still a chance Farrah’s lips could stay this way forever.
“The third is the scariest: some people inject unapproved substances that are not sterile or meant for human injection (like commercial liquid silicone) or products made in other countries. This is almost always done by non-board-certified plastic surgeons and can have devastating effects including tissue necrosis and permanent loss. Always beware of who is injecting your face and make certain that if they are a plastic surgeon, that they are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery,” John Zannis adds.
Dr. Alessi of the Alessi Institutes and Face Forward Foundation gave his expert opinion on her botched implant below!
“I would remove the implant if it is removable and begin treating the patient with antibiotics and steroids. After the inflammation has subsided, possibly doing a surgery for a lip reduction.”
In the future, to avoid: “Be sure you are going to a board certified surgeon who is an expert in his/her field as well as someone who is using sterile techniques in a sterile setting.”
On Jan. 6, Farrah took to Twitter to share the photo above. Luckily, she had a sense of humor about the entire situation and included the hashtag “#botched.”
Let’s just hope she gets some relief soon!
What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Do you think Farrah’s lips will heal properly?
