Teresa turned herself into federal prison, Jan. 5 to begin her 15 month sentence for frauding the federal government. The mother-of-four leaves her children behind as she beings her life behind bars.
Things just got very real for The Real Housewives of New Jersey star, Teresa Giudice. The 42-year-old arrived at the Danbury Federal Correctional Institution just after 3AM on Jan. 5. She was “very, very strong” upon arrival, her attorney, James J. Leonard Jr. said in an interview a few hours after leaving her. We bet this was the hardest thing she’s ever had to do.
Teresa Giudice Enters Prison for 15 Months
Teresa arrival “went great,” James to NorthJersey.com this morning.
“We took her in the front door. There were several officials from the prison there waiting for us. They were extremely courteous and respectful. They answered a lot of questions that we had — basic questions regarding visitation and access to the telephone and the commissary and things like that. ..They were very respectful and that was it. And then she went into the facility,” he said.
When asked how Teresa was feeling, he said she was “very, very strong, but also “anxious to get this thing started and very anxious to get it behind her.” He also added that her biggest focus will always be on her children.
“She’s never talked about, what is this gonna be like for me. Always her concern is with her children, not with herself,” he said.
The prison had asked her to report at 3AM, and they arrived to Connecticut around 1:45AM, had something to eat at a diner, then headed to Danbury, James added.
Teresa’s Tearful Apology
Teresa plead guilty to 41 counts of fraud including bank, mail and wire bankruptcy fraud.
When she was sentenced Oct. 2 she told the judge: “I’m more sorry, than you will ever know.” She leaves behind her daughters, Gia, Gabriella, Milania, and Audriana.
Her husband Joe Giudice will serve 41 months in jail once Teresa is finished. The judge wanted at least one parent to be home with the children.
Teresa read the following statement in court on the day of her sentencing: “I fully take responsibility for my actions. I deeply love my family… My four daughters are my life. I wrote this last night because I knew I was going to be nervous … I’m scared, I’m not going to deny it, I’m really scared.”I have heard you. I need to live to do things for myself. It’s time for me to wake up … I will make this right no matter what it takes.”
The Judge told Teresa: “For a moment I thought about probation … but I think a period of confinement is absolutely necessary in this case,” the judge said to Teresa. “I don’t honestly believe that you understand or respect the law. I need to send a message. In the eyes of the law it doesn’t matter who you are. There are consequences to pay … Your four daughters need to understand discipline. If you don’t have it you shouldn’t spend it,” she said. “If they won’t like you because you’re not driving a Benz or walking on Jimmy Choos or Manolo Blahniks then they’re not your friends.”
HollywoodLife.com told you that Teresa is terrified to leave the girls with Joe because he has no experience truly raising them. Our source tells us that she has asked Melissa Gorga and Kathy Wakile to step in and help check in on the girls weekly.
