‘Downton Abbey’ is back! Our favorite historical drama is returning for a fifth season, and it’s going to be more shocking than ever. Here’s 5 spoilers to hold you over before the premiere!
Downton Abbey is shaking things up in season five. The highly-anticipated new season premieres on Jan. 4 and everyone’s wondering what’s going to go down with Mary (Michelle Dockery), Tom (Allen Leech), Edith (Laura Carmichael) and the rest of the Downton crew. HollywoodLife.com has rounded up 5 juicy spoilers you have to know before the premiere!
‘Downton Abbey’ Spoilers: Season 5 Scoop
1. Mary’s getting another hot love interest.
Fans of Matthew Goode are in luck. The hunky Good Wife star will play a suitor for Lady Mary in the season 5 Christmas special. His name is Henry Talbot, and he’s totally swoonworthy. Move over, Tony!
2. Three new characters arrive.
*Rade Sherbedgia is Prince Kuragin
Prince Kuragin is a man from the Dowager’s past. He’s going to have a key role alongside the Countess, Entertainment Weekly reports.
*Richard E. Grant is Simon Bricker
Simon is an art expert who visits Downton to assess the Piero della Francesca painting within the house. However, that’s not all he’s up to. Simon and Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) have a little flirtationship, much to the chagrin of Robert (Hugh Bonneville).
*Anna Chancellor is Lady Anstruther
Lady Anstruther will meet up with her former footman, Jimmy (Ed Speleers), in the season premiere. Things get a little steamy for these two.
3. Dowager Countess has romance ahead.
Since Prince Kuragin is a blast from the Dowager Countess’ past, could their history have included a romance?
Yes! There is some flirting between the Dowager and the Prince, according to People.
4. Tom is getting restless in Downton.
Tom is considering leaving Yorkshire, so will he meet the same fate as Matthew?
“I think if he does leave, Tom will be leaving under his own steam and he won’t be dead so it doesn’t mean he’s leaving forever,” Allen Leech told The Independent UK.
5. Will Edith’s baby secret be discovered?
Edith has brought her baby back from Switzerland, which only spells trouble. The baby is with a family nearby, but it’s entirely possible that her secret will be discovered by season’s end.
“There are great story lines for characters like Edith,” Allen told People. “Is she going to be able to deal with the fact that her child is basically no longer hers?”
Downton Abbey airs Jan. 4 at 9/8c on PBS.
