The radio talk show host and political commentator is in some hot water after saying Idris Elba, who’s allegedly being lined up to one day replace Daniel Craig as 007, should never play James Bond because he’s black.
Rush Limbaugh is never one to shy away from controversy, and his latest remarks, which some may say borderline on racism, are no different. The radio talk show host recently blasted the idea of Idris Elba one day replacing Daniel Craig as 007 simply because he’s black.
Idris Elba Dissed By Rush Limbaugh: He Can’t Play James Bond — He’s Black
“James Bond is a total concept put together by Ian Fleming. [The character] was white and Scottish. Period. That is who James Bond is, was,” Rush said, according to The Guardian. “But now [they are] suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Britain, rather than a white from Scotland. But that’s not who James Bond is and I know it’s racist to probably point this out.”
Ian Fleming is the author who created the James Bond series of spy novels. And Rush was reacting to rumors that Idris is being groomed to one day replace Daniel Craig as the famous 007.
To try and get his point across further, Rush then compared the casting idea to George Clooney and Kate Hudson starring as Barack and Michelle Obama in a presidential biopic, as pointed out by The Guardian. He even said having Idris play James Bond would be like having Kelsey Grammer play Nelson Mandela in a future movie about the South African freedom fighter.
Eek! Rush is entitled to his opinion, but we obviously believe there shouldn’t be any boundaries when it comes to casting movie roles.
