Were you let down by the new content J.K. Rowling revealed on the Harry Potter fansite, Pottermore, over the last few days? Never fear — the latest entry in her 12 Days of Christmas series is definitely worth reading! Not only did J.K. reveal new information about the backstory of Draco Malfoy, but she also talked about the character’s upbringing and why she was so “unnerved” by the fact that girls swooned over the bad boy.
J.K. Rowling’s Draco Malfoy Story On Pottermore: 12 Days Of Harry Potter Christmas
“Draco was raised in an atmosphere of regret that the Dark Lord has not succeeded in taking command of the wizarding community,” J.K Rowling wrote.
Draco and his family actually though Harry Potter could be “another, and better, Voldemort,” but when he proved not to be, Draco’s hate for the young wizard was born.
We already knew that Draco went on to marry Astoria Greengass, but we were never told much more than that — until now.
“As Astoria refused to raise their grandson Scorpius in the belief that Muggles were scum, family gatherings were fraught with tension,” J.K. further revealed on Pottermore.
The author then went on to talk about how she’s not a fan of girls who ended up crushing on the bad boy.
“I have often had cause to remark on how unnerved I have been by the number of girls who fell for this particular fictional character (although I do not discount the appeal of Tom Felton, who plays Draco brilliantly in the films and, ironically, is about the nicest person you will ever meet. Draco has all the dark glamour of the anti-hero; girls are very apt to romanticise such people. All of this left me in the unenviable position of pouring cold common sense on ardent readers’ daydreams, as I told them, rather severely, that Draco was not concealing a heart of gold under all that sneering,” she wrote.
And there are still two days left in the 12 Days of Christmas series. We’re so excited to see what she reveals next!
