After nine years of ‘The Colbert Report,’ it was tough to narrow down the thousands of hysterical moments into six. But we did it — and before the finale on Dec. 18, you must watch these. Just try not to laugh (I bet you can’t do it!).
Before he takes over The Late Show, we have one more night of Stephen Colbert hosting Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report — and it’s definitely the end of an era. From mocking Justin Bieber to creating the word “truthiness,” here are our top six favorite moments of The Colbert Report.
‘The Colbert Report’ Best Moments
To be clear, these are not in order of how funny. I can’t even begin to rate in that way when it comes to Stephen.
Stephen Invents ‘Truthiness’ – Oct. 17, 2005
In 2010, it was added to the Oxford Dictionary. “No big deal. My name is in the dictionary. Now I can just sit back and let those royalties roll in. Why do you think they call it ‘coining a phrase?’ Cha-ching!” he said.
Better Know A District – Oct. 27, 2005
This recurring segment was hilarious every time he did it, but I chose to focus on Stephen’s chat with Massachusetts’ Barney Frank, an openly gay Congress member. Yes, Stephen asks him to name “who else is gay” in the world.
Colbert Heads to Iraq – June 8-11, 2009
Running the show from Iraq is genius enough but the fact that Stephen did it in full camouflage and allowed himself to get a proper military makeover — ie., a shaved head, was just brilliant. “Without my hair, what would I blow-dry?” he says.
Colbert Cracks Up At ‘Munchma Quchi’ – Aug. 4, 2011
Sometimes, he’s just too funny for his own good. In a segment on the Colbert SuperPAC, he shouts out to an “Arab-American viewer” Suq Madiq . . . but can’t keep a straight face pronouncing any names.
Get Lucky – Aug. 6, 2013
When Daft Punk skipped The Colbert Report, he threw total shade at the duo, then decided to get some of his biggest A-list friends (Bryan Cranston, Hugh Laurie, Matt Damon, Jimmy Fallon) in for their own version of “Get Lucky.”
Justin Bieber/Orlando Bloom fight – July 30, 2014
Naturally, this is a favorite of HollywoodLife.com. After the epic fight between Bieber and Bloom, Colbert created some of the best “ship” names we’ve ever heard!
Alright guys, what are you going to miss most about The Colbert Report?
