Stephen Collins Interview — He Recalls Details Of Molestation
In an interview for 20/20, which will air on Dec. 19, Stephen recalled a moment where he knew he had done something terribly wrong. “In 1973, there were 2 occasions where I exposed myself to this young woman,” he started off saying in the interview clip.
“Several months later, she came to visit and stay with us, with my first wife and me. My wife had gone to sleep and she and I were watching TV alone together and I took her hand and moved it in such a way that she was touching me inappropriately,” he admitted.
Stephen went on to say, “I knew immediately at that moment that something unthinkably wrong had happened that I couldn’t take back. “
“Forty years ago, I did something terribly wrong that I deeply regret. I have been working to atone for it ever since. I’ve decided to address these issues publicly because two months ago, various news organizations published a recording made by my then-wife, Faye Grant, during a confidential marriage therapy session in January, 2012. This session was recorded without the therapist’s or my knowledge or consent,” Stephen told PEOPLE in a statement.
He revealed that while the three cases took place from 1973 to 1994, he has not “had an impulse to act out in any such way” since.
Stephen will sit down with Katie Couric, for his first interview since the case. It will live stream on Yahoo! and air on 20/20 on Friday, Dec. 19.
