Jim Bob is not a bit concerned about the new petition calling for TLC to cancel his family’s reality show, ’19 Kids and Counting.’ ‘They won’t succeed,’ he says.
The Duggar family is under fire after they voted against an LGBT ordinance in their hometown of Fayetteville, Ark. Angry activists launched a Change.org petition asking TLC to pull the plug on 19 Kids and Counting in an effort to “end LGBTQ fear mongering by the Duggars,” but Jim Bob Duggar, 49, insists the network would never do such a thing. Do YOU think the show should be cancelled?
’19 Kids And Counting’ Cancelled After Petition? — Jim Bob Duggar Fires Back
Jim Bob is confident that 19 Kids and Counting will continue to thrive on TLC, no matter how many people sign the Change.org petition.
“They won’t succeed,” Jim Bob told the Missouri Baptist Convention-run newspaper The Pathway on Nov. 21. “Our show is the number one show on TLC. We love everybody. It’s a small group creating this fuss. All it has done is give us more exposure.”
In fact, Jim Bob says that thanks to the petition, his family “gained 50,000 Facebook fans last week. God is expanding our borders through the national media.”
Duggar Family Allegedly Bans Multiple Same-Sex Couples On Facebook
This isn’t the first time the Duggar family has been blasted for their reported anti-LGBT views. After Jim Bob’s wife, Michelle Duggar, posted a Facebook photo of the couple kissing and asked other married couples to do the same, the 19 Kids And Counting matriarch was accused of banning same-sex couples from sharing pics.
“God designed marriage to be a loving, dynamic relationship between a husband and wife for a lifetime,” Michelle captioned her Facebook photo. “God loves marriage and it is supposed to be full of love, joy, fun, and romance. Marriage is where romance belongs!”
Michelle posted the photo in support of her daughter, Jessa, adding:
“Recently, Ben & Jessa received some criticism for posting a kissing picture. We are so grateful they waited to share their first kiss until after marriage. We’ve been married 30 years and are still in love! We had fun trying to duplicate Ben and Jessa’s happily married kissing picture. We challenge all married couples to take a happily married picture and post it here.”
But apparently all couples were not welcome. John Becker, who runs the LGBTQ blog The Bilerico Project, accused the Duggars of taking down a photo of himself and his husband kissing, despite the fact that his post received tons of support from other Facebookers.
“Of course, the Duggars didn’t like that, so they started yanking photos of same-sex couples kissing and banning the people who posted them, myself included,” John said. “It’s their page, of course, so they have every right to do that. But as I noted, the whole episode says something about them and their gay panic-saturated worldview.”
