‘The Office’ meets ‘The Hobbit’ — ‘SNL’ made it happen. Martin acted in a mashup of two of his fan favorite roles in a hilarious skit where ‘The Office’ characters were hobbit versions of themselves. Watch the funny skit here!
Martin Freeman hosted the Dec. 13 episode of Saturday Night Live and did not disappoint. One of the funniest sketches of the night was a clever mashup of two of Martin’s biggest roles: Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit films and Tim Canterbury on the British version of The Office. He totally stole the show with this one!
Martin Freeman: ‘SNL’ Host Parodies ‘The Office’ and ‘The Hobbit’
The skit, called The Office: Middle Earth, mocked The Office‘s “mocumentay” style interviews. Martin, who plays the American equivalent of Jim (John Krasinski) in the British TV show, talks to the camera just as he would in the hilarious sitcom — except he was dressed in his full Hobbit costume!
“Um, what have I been up to? I went on a quest and saved Middle Earth. I became a bit of a hero. Did the noble thing and turned down loads of treasure. Yeah, so the brave Hobbit Bilbo Baggins now works at a paper company,” Martin says.
We’re then introduced to other Office characters as hobbits, including Gandalf as the quirky, attention-seeking boss and the evil co-worker Gollum. We were seriously LOL-ing when Gollum put his “precious” ring in jello.
We also see Hobbit Bilbo flirt with the receptionist and sit back while observing the weird nature of his co-workers at the office Christmas party. This was by far one of our favorite SNL parodies in a long time!
