This week the designers get to roll the dice — but not everyone’s “Fashion Gamble” totally paid off!
Even after a trip to London and a chance to design to royalty, the Project Runway All Stars contestants were met with yet another surprise — a fashion gamble! The runway was turned into a gambling table, as the designers get the chance to roll the dice to find out what fabric they’ll be using — and for what event they’re designing for. With a $150 budget and one day in the workroom, everything got even more interesting once they rolled the dice.
‘Project Runway All Stars’ Recap:
Fabio gets to go first — and he rolls denim! His event? A masquerade ball — this already is a recipe for disaster. Brocade was quite popular: Sonjia rolled it for a bachelorette party, Samantha rolled it for an awards ceremony, Gunnar rolled it for a masquerade ball — and those were just three of the designers who rolled it!
As the contestants went to Mood, they quickly honed in on their fabrics — but one designer might have been a bit confused. As everyone returned to the workroom and began dreaming up their creations, there was chatter about Sonjia’s fabric and whether or not it was actually brocade. While she was obsessed with the hot pink hue, if the fabric doesn’t fit she’s definitely going to be in big trouble! Fabio decided to clue her in to do her a favor, but she is not having it at all — luckily she did have another fabric to work with.
Critique Time & The Claws Come Out In The Workroom:
Zanna comes into the workroom and lets the designers in on another twist in the competition — the winning look will be featured on host Alyssa Milano in Marie Claire.
Zanna critiques the designers and tells Fabio his pink denim gown for a masquerade ball is looking a bit “Pepto Bismol” — but he decides to power through, (after all, he didn’t have many options).
As the models come in for their fitting, Helen tries to offer some advice to Jay about his look — and considering Zanna also had some concerns it might have been wise to listen! Instead, a very snippy, attitude-filled interaction goes down.
After the looks come down the runway it is time to hear what the judges have to say. Georgina thinks Helen’s plunging corset top and visible midriff is a bit much with the slit in the long skirt. Isaac Mizrahi says it reminds him of “A comfy English sofa.”
Sonjia’s gold brocade bachelorette dress for Vegas is well-received by the judges — in fact, Alyssa calls her the “one to beat!” She always seems to make it work, even when she has to switch up her fabric — way to go!
Fabio’s denim masquerade ball dress gets ripped apart — from the fabric choice to the styling, none of the judges liked it, (and we can’t say we blame them).
After deliberating, Michelle and Sonjia were in the top two — but ultimately Sonjia took home the prize for her gold brocade mini. As for the bottom two, it came down to Gunnar and Fabio — and Gunnar was sent packing. Honestly, I was a bit surprised Fabio’s pink denim dress didn’t get him voted off.
