The Top 5 remaining contestants on ‘The Voice’ hit the stage to prove to America that they deserve their vote. With the finals near, the pressure was on but each contestant rose to the occasion — we have the full recap!
Each of the 5 singers sang twice — for their first appearances of the night, their coaches got to pick the songs and for the second, they were able to show off their own song choices. The contestants used their emotions to deliver unforgettable performances and Gwen Stefani even cried a few times during the show!
‘The Voice’ Top 5 Perform In The Semi-Finals
Damien sang “She’s Out of My Life” by Michael Jackson. “It is probably the most emotionally vulnerable vocal that he ever did,” Adam explained about why he chose that specific tune for his contestant. All four judges were on their feet by the end of his performance. “That’s one of the most perfect performances I have ever heard on this stage, dude,” Blake told Damien!
Damien dedicated his next song, “I Don’t Want to Wait,” to his home town of supporters — he nailed it as usual! “What a phenomenal voice, what an incredible spirit and what a way to communicate a message back to the world…your voice is second to none, my friend” Pharrell told Damien after his upbeat second performance.
Matt Mcandrew sang “Make It Rain,” an Ed Sheeran cover of the Foy Vance tune. Adam explained that he heard the song in a Sons Of Anarchy episode and fell in love with it and immediately called Matt up to tell him he would be singing it for the semi-finals — and we are so glad he did. His performance was out-of-this-world amazing. Pharrell even called him a star — spot on!
For his second song of the night, Matt chose “I Don’t Want to Wait.” The judges had only great things to say. “Just wow,” was the only thing Adam can think of saying to his contestant.
Chris Jamison sang a Maroon 5 song, “Sugar,” which happens to be the band’s next single. “He wanted to do it and I would be a fool to say no,” his coach explained — okay Adam, we will let this little self-promotion stunt pass because we actually really enjoyed the performance! “You have continued to rise to the occasion…I am so completely proud of you,” Adam told Chris.
For his second song, Chris sang “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars. “Dude, honestly…I am so proud of you. Vote for this dude, he deserves to be there at the end,” Adam begged America.
Criag Wayne Boyd sang “Working Man Blues.” Blake said, “I can guarantee you have never heard it done like this,” Blake assured the viewers about the song he picked. He had a great time up on that stage and it came across loud and clear! “You get the whole crowd going,” Gwen commented afterwards — she is totally right!
Later on in the evening, Craig took on his second song, “Old Rugged Cross.” The audience wend wild after his performance and holding back tears, a clearly emotional Craig said, “I feel so blessed right now, it’s mind-blowing.”
Gwen was also teary-eyed after his performance — “I am crying again, here we are,”she said while choking back her tears. Carson noted, “You’ve been crying all night” and Gwen responded “this show makes me cry!” Earlier in the night, Gwen teared up during flashbacks of when the contestants went home to visit their families — and we don’t blame her. Those reunions were emotional for us to watch as well — super sweet moments!
Taylor John Williams sang “Falling Slowly” and Gwen said that she picked that song because she “wanted to do something he would love, its one of his favorite songs ever.” We had the chills throughout the whole performance — what a beautiful song and voice to match. “I love hearing you sing,” Adam complimented Taylor after his top-notch performance.
Taylor picked a Taylor Swift song as his next! He sang “Blank Space” and completely made it his own — we loved it! “You are a true artist,” Gwen told him before she begged America to vote for him.
