‘The Last Five Years’ Trailer: Anna Kendrick Sings About Jeremy Jordan
Am I the only one who could listen to Ms. Kendrick sing endlessly until the day I die? Um, I hope not.
In the first trailer for her latest musical, The Last Five Years, a blonde Anna portrays Cathy Hiatt — an aspiring Broadway star who is going over the trials and tribulations of her doomed relationship with successful writer, Jamie Wellerstein.
Interestingly enough, Jamie, who is portrayed by Broadway veteran Jeremy Jordan, is doing the exact same thing — except he’s reliving their relationship from the beginning, while she’s going backwards.
I know that sounds confusing, but I promise you — it’s not. It’s actually a beautiful tale of two people who fall in love, change drastically, and fall out of love when they have nothing left to fight for.
‘TL5Y’ Stays Loyal & Features Many Cameos On Film
Oh, and did I mention the entire story is told through song? That’s the best part — because the music, written by the brilliant Tony Award winning Jason Robert Brown, is not just moving, it manages to simplify what could have been a very complex and daunting story.
Plus, loyal fans of the show, which has continued on-and-off over the years in different off-Broadway runs, will recognize some familiar faces. Cameos made by Sherie Rene Scott — the first woman to ever bring Cathy to life on stage — as well as Betsy Wolfe and Jason himself will charm your pants off.
The Last Five Years hits limited theaters on Feb. 13, which is Valentine’s Day weekend. It will also be available on VOD, so be sure to check with your cable provider for a release date!
