Matthew Bellamy Kate Hudson Split

One of our favorite couples have called it quits. Kate Hudson, 35, and Matt Bellamy, 36, have ended their engagement after three and a half years. The two have one son together.

We were really rooting for these two! Kate Hudson has been spotted repeatedly without her engagement ring over the past few months — and now we’ve learned that it’s because she called off her engagement to Muse singer Matthew Bellamy!

“Kate doesn’t ever want to get divorced again, and she wasn’t sure marriage with Matt was the right choice,” a source told X17Online. “There is still a lot of love there, and they plan to amicably co-parent their son. Who knows what the future holds for them, but right now it’s not a wedding.”

The couple got engaged in April 2011 and she gave birth to their son, Bingham Hall Bellamy, in July.

“Kate and Matt have been separated for some time now,” Kate’s rep confirms to People magazine. “Despite this, they remain very close friends and committed co-parents.”

Before Matt, Kate was married to The Black Crowes singer, Chris Robinson from 2000 to 2007. Together, they had one son together, Ryder.

The last time that we spotted Matt and Kate together was at Goldie Hawn‘s MindUp charity event in Beverly Hills on November 21 — Goldie is Kate’s mother, and Matt is on the committee. While the two aren’t married, Kate has been open about the difficulties they have had.

Kate Knows Relationships Are ‘Flawed’

“Relationships are the most challenging things,” she told Self magazine in April. “It’s where you do the most work in your life. You come face-to-face with yourself, and if you can deal with realizing we’re all flawed, accept it and work with it, you might have a really amazing, lasting relationship.”

Plus, her mother, Goldie never married Kurt Russell, so she wasn’t in a hurry.

“If I look at my parents, who’ve been together thirty-something years, I’d say no matter what they’ve been through, they share similar values and really like each other,” she said. “It sounds easy, but it’s not.”

HollywoodLife.com has reached out to both Matt and Kate’s teams. Are you shocked that Matt and Kate called it off? Let us know!
