Oh no! Green Day just announced that its longtime guitarist Jason has been diagnosed with tonsil cancer! Is he going to be OK?
Green Day fans were heartbroken when the band revealed the shocking news on its official website on Dec. 5. Thankfully, doctors are hopeful that Jason White, 41, will make a full recovery. Read on for the band’s full statement.
Jason White Has Cancer: Green Day Guitarist Diagnosed With Tonsil Cancer
Green Day shared about Jason’s cancer on its official website on Dec. 5, saying:
“We have some news to report regarding our brother Jason White, and wanted you to hear it from us before word spread. Jason recently underwent a routine tonsillectomy, and his doctors discovered a treatable form of tonsil cancer. Thankfully they caught it early and he should make a full and speedy recovery. Please join us in sending him love and positive healing vibes during this time.”
So sad! Our thoughts go out to Jason and his loved ones during this difficult time, but we’re so grateful that it sounds like he’ll be okay.
Jason White’s History With Green Day
Jason has been affiliated with Green Day since the early ’90s, but he didn’t play onstage with the band until 1999, during its Warning tour, according to Rolling Stone. Jason joined the band for all subsequent tours, and went on to become the lead guitarist for all of Green Day’s live performances.
