Maroon 5 isn’t known for their Christmas music, but we definitely think they should make a holiday album after seeing them on ‘A Very Grammy Christmas’ Dec. 5! Did you love their performance?
Adam Levine and the band took the stage for a very gorgeous, rocker version of John Lennon‘s “Happy X-Mas (War Is Over),” a hit that Adam called “bittersweet,” yet a favorite. The band was one of many who performed for CBS’ A Very Grammy Special, airing Dec. 5. But they performed twice!
Maroon 5’s ‘A Very Grammy Christmas’ Performance
It’s not surprising that Maroon 5 played “Happy X-Mas,” as they originally covered the hit years ago and Adam chatted about the choice backstage with CBS — and this year it definitely meant a lot.
“‘Happy X-Mas (War is Over’ is one of my favorite Christmas songs. It’s a bittersweet, beautiful song,” Adam said before the show. “John Lennon’s the man. It’s kind of one of those weird, cool, Christmas song that I feel doesn’t get played enough at Christmas.”
“It means just as much today as it did then,”James Valentine added. “Unfortunately, there’s still a lot of conflict in the world. This song’s got a good message.”
After “Happy X-Mas,” they took on a medley of Maroon 5 hits, including “This Love,” which yes is an oldie but such a goodie.
You can watch a clip of their performance below, then the full show at 8PM on Dec. 5 on CBS’ A Very Grammy Christmas.
