That’s one big baby! One mother in Colorado expected to deliver a 7lb baby, and instead her newborn daughter weighed nearly 14lbs.
Alisha Hernandez went into labor with what she believed to be a baby weighing a normal, healthy 7lbs. However, when her daughter, Mia Yasmin Hernandez, was born weighing a massive 13lbs and 13oz, the hospital staff was reportedly “shocked” by the newborn’s size. Rightfully so!
Colorado Baby Born At Nearly 14lbs
Can you imagine giving birth to a 14lb baby? If you’re anything like me, than you probably don’t even want to try thinking about it!
However, Mia did not give her mom much of a choice. When she was born on Monday morning, Dec. 1, in Alamosa, Colorado, she weighed exactly 13lbs and 13 ounces.
Sadly, Mia had to be flown to another hospital outside of Denver because she had low glucose levels and some trouble breathing, reports Yahoo.
Thankfully, her family has remained optimistic, and her father, Francisco Garcia, even expects to take his little girl home soon!
Mia Has 4 Older Sisters
It’s no wonder that Mia’s mom had lower weight expectations for her daughter: it was her 5th time welcoming a baby into the family!
Although none of her other 4 children’s birth weights have been revealed, the shock Mia’s parents had when she was born tells us that this was definitely a first for them.
Hopefully Mia does get to go home soon. It sounds like she has a welcome committee waiting for her!
