For the first time since he shot and killed Michael Brown, Police Officer Darren Wilson is defending his actions — and also revealed he would do it all over again if he had to.
Darren Wilson, 28, wants people to know his side of the story. In his first-ever interview, the police officer describes the encounter with 18-year-old Michael Brown in Fergusion, Mo. on Aug. 9 that led to the teenager’s untimely death. The officer claims Mike not only assaulted him, but also charged Darren in an effort to overpower him and kill him. Scary.
Darren Wilson’s First Interview After Shooting Michael Brown
Despite the tragic circumstances, it is about time that Darren has decided to speak up and reveal what happened to him on Aug. 9.
The police officer, who has been on paid leave since he shot and killed Mike in the middle of a road, sat down with ABC’s George Stephanopoulous to reveal that he did his job “right” that day.
“That’s what we were trained to do,” Darren explains while discussing why he chased Michael down the street.
Not only did Darren defend his actions, stating that protecting the community is what he and all law enforcement officers are trained for, but he said he would do it all over again if the situation went down the same way — whether Michael was black or white.
“If I don’t, he will kill me when he gets to me,” the officer claims he said to himself while debating whether or not to shoot the teenager in self defense.
Darren Claims Mike Tried To Take His Police Gun
While explaining step-by-step how his confrontation with Mike went down, Darren revealed that at one point, while he was still seated inside of his vehicle, he drew his gun on Michael so that he would stop physically assaulting him.
Unfortunately, that didn’t work. “You’re too much of a p–sy to shoot me,” Michael allegedly told Darren while reaching for the gun.
Darren revealed that he could feel Michael was trying to slip his finger into the trigger cage, which is when Darren pulled the trigger gun for the first time.
