This has to be the toughest ‘DWTS’ finale competition in years, but there’s one contestant that has been the strongest, most charismatic dancer from day one — Alfonso Ribeiro — and he MUST win the Mirrorball Trophy.
When Alfonso Ribeiro hit the stage in week four of Dancing With The Stars and Tom Jones’s infamous ,”It’s Not Unusual,” tune began playing, that was hands down the most memorable moment of the season.
Alfonso Ribeiro Deserves To Win DWTS
That’s because Alfonso was about to overcome his long love-hate relationship with his iconic character, Carlton Banks, in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
He explained on DWTS that he loved playing Carton for six years on the hit show alongside co-star, Will Smith, BUT that the character had almost ruined his career.
Casting directors he said, often wouldn’t even consider him for roles, because in their eyes, he was “pigeon-holed” as Carlton.
That’s why it took courage for Alfonso to sit next to his partner, Witney Carson, on the sofa on set and to start tapping his feet in time to the music, as his performance began.
By the time he broke into the infamous Carlton dance, a minute later, the crowd went wild. He finally, despite his misgivings, danced the dance that “everyone has been waiting for,” enthused Julianne Hough, when the judges could finally speak after the applause died down.
“I’m so glad you made us wait, it’s almost like dating! I think not only did you separate yourself from Carlton, but what you’re doing this week, people are going to remember Alfonso,” Julianne raved.
And she had to rave. Alfonso danced that Carlton with such enthusiasm and dexterity and the biggest smile on his face. It was impossible not to watch his every magnetic move, as he performed the hilarious, energetic dance that made him famous.
He deserved the perfect score he received that night. Just as he deserved the perfect 40 that he earned last night, Nov. 24, after he, as Bruno Tonioli, put it, showed “how you tap your way to the top.”
When was the last time that a DWTS contestant had the guts to do a tap dance solo like he pulled off in his free style dance?
It was fabulous! Another example of his fast paced foot moves and athletic snappy timing, that we’ve seen on the DWTS dance floor week after week.
Will Smith Asks Fans to ‘Show Love’ To Alfonso
Of all the contestants, Alfonso has been the one who always looked like he was having the absolute best time every week.
His enthusiasm has been completely contagious and we have seen it infecting his entire body. In his eyes, smile and all the way down to his happy feet.
That kind of commitment deserves a reward. As does the fact that it’s been a dream of Alfonso’s to win Dancing With The Stars for years.
“I’ve always wanted to do the show,” Alfonso has said. “When they finally came to me and offered me the opportunity to do this season I was totally into it and thought it would be great.”
I hope his support helps. But Will Smith or not, Alfonso has proven that his exciting dextrous dancing has been the best for weeks.
He’s earned the Mirrorball! Do you agree HollywoodLifers? Let me know.
