‘Dancing With The Stars’: Bethany Mota Eliminated — ‘DWTS’ Week 11 Recap
In the first round, the remaining four pairs had to re-dance a favorite dance from earlier in the season.
For Bethany Mota and Derek Hough, the judges choose the jive that earned them 32 points the first week. It was off to a bad start when the set didn’t move on time and a microphone cord ended up on the dance floor! “I remember this dance so well from week one and I must say this is a great improvement. I know there was an issue with the props but it’s a great way to start the show,” head judge Len Goodman said. “You are so comfortable now, I don’t even see Derek. You’ve really grown into such a beautiful woman and you’ve improved so drastically,” Julianne Hough said. Bruno Tonioli said he did see some timing issues. I’m sorry, I love Bethany & Derek, but that dance did not do it for me. I was not impressed, which is saying a lot since “Shake It Off” is my jam! They got a 36!
Next, Sadie Robertson and Mark Ballas got a surprise visit from One Direction’s Liam Payne, who crashed their rehearsal! They danced their Samba, which is also one of my favorite dances of the season. “I loved it the first time, I gave you guys a 10. But this time…I liked it even better!” Julianne said. Bruno added: “This was wonderful but you were slightly behind on the timing.” Carrie Ann Inaba said: “I have to be honest. Out of all the competitors, I was surprised to see you in the finals. But after watching that, that is exactly why you are in the finals! You are incredible!” They got a 38!
Val Chmerkovskiy danced his 33-point Samba with partner Janel Parrish. “It’s time for passion overload,” Val teased. Janel suffered a rib injury earlier today, but it didn’t show! “Listen, the passion was pulsating but you lost balance a bit on the turn. I know it’s because of your injury. Such a shame,” Bruno said. “You kicked the booty of that samba,” Carrie Ann said. “I didn’t notice any mistakes with the turns. What I did see was great rhythmic dancing, mixed with a clarity and sharpness, which is so hard to get,” Len said. They got a 37! They are so amazing. I totally think they should win!
Alfonso Ribeiro and Witney Carson danced their premiere jive that earned them 36 points. Alfonso is battling a ton of injuries (back, groin) as well, but looked amazing! Carrie Ann gave them a standing ovation and said: “You set the bar from day one with that dance and tonight you slapped us all in the face! You killed it!” Len said: “You dance like Frank Sinatra sings. You have just taken an enormous step into that finale!” Alfonso’s Fresh Prince co-star Will Smith posted a message on Facebook: “If y’all show Alfonso Ribeiro & Witney Carson enough love tonight, they might be able to take home the mirrorball tomorrow!” They got a perfect score of 40 from the judges!
Round Two: Freestyle
Bethany & Derek danced to “Revolution.” Bethany said it was a tribute to her fans, her Motavators. “Great lifts, drama, that was a 5-star freestyle!” Len said. Julianne said she was proud of Bethany. “It was like watching a dancing Katniss in Catching Fire. You’re strong, you’re powerful. You have the making of a leader,” Bruno said. They got a perfect score of 40 for a total of 76!
Sadie & Mark danced to the Super Mario Brothers theme song! “Watching this, I felt like a child. I was hit with wave upon wave of joy,” Bruno said. “Welcome to the hall of fame, because to me, that was the most memorable freestyle in ages!” Carrie Ann said. Len also said he will never forget this dance! They got a 40!
Janel & Val danced beautifully to an acoustic rendition of “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).” “This was the visualization of a love poem. It touched everybody’s soul. So moving, so deeply felt. Hypnotically beautiful. Thank you again,” Bruno raved. “You guys, together as a team, are immaculate. It was incredible. Beautiful,” Carrie Ann said. “It combined athleticism with artistry,” Len said. “What you two have is so real and so authentic. That was so honest and so pure. It shows the trust you guys have. It was absolutely breathtaking,” Julianne said. AFTER JANEL ADMITTED SHE LOVES VAL (OMG!!), they got a 40, for a total score of 77!
Finally, Alfonso and Witney danced their freestyle. It was amazing!! “That was the ultimate freestyle. I loved it,” Carrie Ann raved. “It was an all you can eat buffet of great dancing! This is the closest for me. I hope America does the right thing and goes for the best dancer,” Len said. Bruno yelled: “That’s how you tap your way to the top!” They also got a perfect score of 40!
In the end, we had to say goodbye to an amazing couple: Bethany & Derek.
