From past relationships to the present day, the designers this week needed to dig deep into their personal lives to create dresses that left their hearts on their sleeves…and on the runway! Some gave it their all while others fell short of this emotional task — and a familiar face was back to judge the designers!
Another week, another difficult challenge to get the designers on Project Runway All Stars to step out of their comfort zones. Nina Garcia, the creative director for Marie Claire and past judge of Project Runway, made an appearance this week to help give the designers the challenge. With big incentives in store for the winner this week, the challenge was to create a colorful party dress for a celebration that had to include their own journey of love — and it needed to include elements of the past, present, and future.
‘Project Runway All Stars’ Recap — Nina Garcia Returns, Season 4, Episode 4:
The challenge was based off of the Zale’s collection for couples relating to their past, present, and future — and the collection included beautiful rings and necklaces. The winner of this very emotional challenge will win a Zale’s gift card worth $10,000 and the winner will also receive an exclusive, custom-made diamond pendant from the collection worth over $15,000. With incentive to win, the designers got to work.
With only $100 for fabric, the designers got to work on their emotionally-driven dresses. With past relationships on their mind the designers were very emotional while processing their creations. The challenge represented so much more than fashion — it represented their love life through their garments.
As designers finished their garments up to the last second before taking the runway, judges Nina Garcia, Issac Mizrahi, Danielle Bernstein, and Seth Aaron Henderson were all excited to see the looks that the designers created. With a powerful start to the show, Dmitry wowed judge Nina Garcia with his Ferrari-red party dress with beautiful stitching and a wavy skirt to show his open heart for the future.
Although we were biting our nails while thinking that Gunner was going to be sent packing this week after a poor performance with his strategy, Kate’s design was disliked by the judges this time around and she was sent home due to her poor execution of representing the challenge of love and her personal relationship. The judges were not impressed with the unfinished garment and the sloppy hemming — and they also didn’t like the color of the dress!
‘Project Runway All Stars’ Winner:
Back at the top from last week’s <emWicked challenge, Sonji fell short of winning this week’s touching challenge to Helen. Ultimately the judges thought that Helen’s dress best represented the challenge for this week and were impressed with the construction of the emotion shown in her dress that really facilitated in showing her past, present, and future relationship.
What did you think of Helen’s emotionally driven party gown? Did the right person go home?
