Karisa Bugal: Mom Dies During Childbirth — Amniotic Fluid Embolism Killed Her
As Karisa was going into labor on Nov. 3, she unexpectedly suffered from a rare condition called amniotic fluid embolism, which according to medical experts affects 1 to 12 mothers in every 100,000 deliveries.
With her unborn son’s health rapidly declining, Karisa immediately opted for a c-section procedure — a decision that would inevitably increase her risk of death.
“While a delay could have saved her life, it would have cost him his. She passed away shortly after he was born, with just enough strength to ask how much he weighed as she was wheeled to intensive care,” according to The Daily Mail.
Weighing in at 7-pounds and 4-ounces, Declan Jay Bugal is not only a miracle baby, but also a symbol of one mother’s heroism and courage.
Karisa Bugal Dies In Childbirth One Day Before Wedding Anniversary
Karisa, and her husband, Wes Bugal, were supposed to celebrate their 8th wedding anniversary on Nov. 4. Now, however, Wes is left to care for his two children — Mallory and Duncan — as a single father.
“How do I explain to him that his mom is gone after giving birth to him? I think about that all the time,” Wes told Colorado’s 9 News. “How do I explain when he asks where’s mommy?”
To support Wes, Mallory and Duncan, during this incredible time of need, we encourage you to contribute to the Bugal’s GoFundMe page, which has raised nearly $40,000 for the family of three.
Our thoughts go out to the Bugal family and Karisa’s legacy.
