Jena exuded vintage glamour at the Los Angeles premiere of ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1’ on November 17. We got the exact details on her hair and makeup look — expert tips below!
Jena Malone, 29, looked so pretty at the premiere in LA on Nov. 17 — it almost made me forget her awful character in Stepmom — almost. I kid, I kid! We loved her retro, classic hair and makeup and now we have the exact steps from her glam squad so you can copy the look!
Jena Malone At ‘Mockingjay’ LA Premiere — Marvelous Makeup
Jenn Streicher for e.l.f. Cosmetics described the inspiration to HollywoodLife.com:
“When I first saw Jena’s Ungaro gown, my first thought was ‘Wow, bold move! Red hair and red dress…how ‘bout a red lip!’ Once I saw her hair done, and she put the dress on, I knew I the look called for a red ombré look on her lips.”
Here’s how to get the exact makeup look:
“I started with Hourglass mineral veil primer and Armani’s Maestro foundation and a little of e.l.f.’s complete coverage concealer under the eyes and blemishes. I used Charlotte Tilbury’s Filmstar for some contouring and NARS blush in Gilda on the apples of the cheeks for a pop of color. On the eyes I used the e.l.f. baked eye shadow palette (Texas). I used the light sand shade over her entire lid and then used a soft pointy brush to apply the light brown color around her lash line (upper and lower). I also used a lot of the e.l.f. Lengthening and Defining mascara to both her upper and lower lashes.”
“For the lip, I applied e.l.f.’s Studio Moisturizing Lipstick in Red Carpet with a defining lip brush. I then took e.l.f.s Moisturizing lipstick in Velvet Rope and applied it just to the center of her lips. The Velvet rope color is lighter and has a hint of orange. This gave the “ombré” look to the lips (lighter in the center darker color towards the end). I finished the look with e.l.f.’s Essential Super Glossy Lip Shine in Angel.”
Jena Malone’s Hair At ‘Hunger Games’ Premiere — Exact How To
TMG Hairstylist Bobby Eliot created her vintage waves. Here’s the exact how to:
“The inspiration for Jena‘s look was her amazing Emanuel Ungaro dress. It had this 40’s movie star quality to it and we wanted to complement that.I started off with towel dried hair. I sprayed Oribe Foundation Mist all over, then I applied Oribe Grandiose Hair Plumping Mousse from roots to ends and combed through.
I then applied a dime size amount of Oribe Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil, and a dime size amount of Oribe Balm d’Or Heat Styling Shield. I mixed them together in my hands and applied to the ends.
I then blow-dried the hair focusing on getting lots of root lift. I lifted the roots with my fingers and dried the ends with a Mason Pearson Boar bristle brush. After the hair was dried, I sectioned off a deep side part. I used a 1/2 inch Marcel iron and set the hair.
After the hair was set, I then sprayed Oribe Superfine Hairspray and let the hair cool. Using a Mason Pearson, I then brushed out all of the hair. Then I used the mirror and visually molded the wave with my fingers. Lastly, I finished off the look with Oribe Shine Light Reflecting Spray.”
