‘The Voice’ Top 12 Live Shows — Recap
Sugar Joans was the first singer of the night to showcase her talents. “God colored outside the lines when he made her,” Pharrell said about his contestant before she performed “Take Me to the River.” She really showed off her vocal ability towards the end of the song with the powerful high note — she nailed it. “I always look forward to your performance,” Blake told Sugar after she sang her heart out.
From Team Gwen, hottie Ryan Sill, performed next. “This is up his street…it’s emotional…it’s dreamy,” Gwen said about the song she chose for him, which was Duran Duran’s “Ordinary World.” It was hard to concentrate on his amazing voice because he looked so cute up there! “His voice is so perfectly beautiful,” Adam said and we totally agree.
“You’re one of my favorites,” Blake revealed to his contestant, Jessie Pitts. She sang “Don’t You Worry Child,” and made it her own. Her unique voice really adds a lot to this competition — her performance was perfect! Blake gave her the ultimate compliment when he told her she reminds him of his wife, Miranda Lambert! “She’s got a lot of the things that remind me of Miranda, she takes stuff and makes it her own.”
Damien sang “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother” for his first performance on the Top 12 Live Shows. His soulful voice really blew the judges and the audience away. His coach, Adam, told him,”I could not in a million years be prouder than I am of you now.”
The next singer to take the mic was Danica Shirey from Team Pharrell. She sang “Creep” by Radiohead. “I am definitely hoping this is a risk that will pay off,” she said before her performance — we can safely say the risk paid off! That song choice was perfect for her strong voice. “You’re a freak of nature,” Gwen said in the best way possible.
Taylor John Williams sang a less known song, “If” by Bread. “People are going to hear things in his voice that they didn’t know he had,” his coach Gwen said during rehearsals. “You always sound great,” Blake told Taylor — we totally agree! His coach, Gwen, told him, “you are amazing.”
The youngest singer in the competition, Reagan James, sang “It Ain’t Over ‘til It’s Over” by Lenny Kravitz. She made it her own and it paid off — this girl can really sing! She not only sounded great, but she looked super cute in her all sequin sweater. “This girl just turned 16 last week, the way she thinks and creates…she is so ahead of her time. You put your own stamp on everything,” her coach Blake said after her performance.
Luke Wade Recovers After Rough Starting While Singing Ed Sheeran
Luke Wade sang Ed Sheeran‘s hit song, “Thinking Out Loud.” During his rehearsal, Luke said, “I am a romantic guy, so this song is perfect for me.” Luke got off to a rough start when he seemed to have forgotten the lyrics. He recovered nicely and finished off strong. He told Carson Daily, “I came in two beats too early,” afterwards. Adam said, “He recovered like a professional would have recovered!” Pharrell told Luke that he rose to the occasion — regardless of the rough start, we thought he sounded amazing!
Team Adam’s pop-rocker, Matt Mcandrew, sang “Take Me to Church” by Hozier. “This song, in your hands, the potential is explosive,” Adam told Matt — he was right! The performance was explosive to say the least. “I can’t wait to hear your album,” Pharrell told Matt. Adam told him he could win the whole show!
Craig Wayne Boyd sang “You Look So Good in Love” and rocked it! “Im glad to have someone like you on the show,” Pharrell told Craig after his performance.
The soulful Chris Jamison sang the hit song “Jealous” by Nick Jonas. He not only looked super hot on stage, but his voice was on point (much like Nick Jonas). “That is 100% your best performance ever,” Pharrell told Chris. “The screaming in here was so loud, that I think I have permanent damage,” Gwen said — told you he was hot!
Anita Antoninette was the last singer to perform. She sang, “Redemption Song,” by Bob Marley — a perfectly fitting song for this reggae queen. “There is something about your voice that is so soothing,” Blake told Anita.
