So scary! U2’s Bono cheated death on Nov. 12, when a rear door of his private jet reportedly fell off mid-flight while he was on his way from Dublin to Berlin to attend the Bambi International Music awards.
Bono, 54, narrowly escaped death on Nov. 12, when the tailgate of his private plane became detached while flying to Berlin, Germany causing a door to fall off as well as the singer and his companions luggage. Luckily, everyone aboard the flight is safe and according to a new report, the door was outside the pressurized area of the cabin so there was no need for oxygen masks.
Bono Nearly Dies — Singer’s Jet Door Falls During Flight
What an absolutely terrifying experience. The Daily Mail reports that Bono as well as four companion — who were not his fellow U2 members — were taking a short two hour plane ride from Dublin to Berlin before the Bambi awards to speak with the German minister of economic cooperation and development, Gerd Mueller.
A source told the site, “He was extremely lucky, the plane could have gone down. About an hour into the journey they heard a big thud coming from the rear of the plane,” the insider revealed.
‘They were startled for a bit but they continued on and made the descent into Berlin airport. When they landed they were horrified to learn that the compartment at the rear of the plane had completely detached.” — So scary!
“The entire door along with Bono and his companions’ luggage had fallen out mid-air. They don’t know if the door and the contents landed over water or land but they were extremely lucky,” the source said. “They were at an altitude where anything could have happened and they are all feeling very lucky to be alive.”
Luckily, the site reports that because the door was outside the pressurized area, the cabin did not lose pressure and there was no need for oxygen masks.
The plane landed minutes later at Berlin’s Schoenefeld Airport and the Aviation authorities in Germany are officially investigating the incident.
Bono Performs On The Same Night As Plane Incident
Bono appears to have recovered nicely, just one hour after the plane safely landed the singer met with Gerd and then that night joined his band members for a performance at the Bambi awards.
The site also reports that Bono is set to fly back to the US this week where he is set to make an appearance with U2 on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show.
We are so glad that everyone onboard was safe and unharmed during the extremely scary and unfortunate incident!
