The Voice kicked off its live shows on Nov. 10 and Damien easily stole the night with a standing ovation after singing a Sam Smith classic! The stakes are higher than ever with America voting for the first time this week — who do you think will go home based on their performance from night one of the Playoff Rounds?
‘The Voice’ Live Playoff Rounds: Team Adam vs. Team Blake
Before the contestants hit the stage, we got a super sexy performance from judge Adam Levine. He joined his band, Maroon 5, to sing their new hit song, “Animals!” Way to kick things off on the right foot, guys!
The first contestant to showcase what they’ve got was Taylor Brashears from Team Blake! She sang a Dixie Chicks tune, “Long Time Gone” and totally nailed it! After she finished singing, Gwen told her she looked effortless on stage and Adam told her the coolest thing about her is her confidence — we totally agree! Her coach, Blake, told her she did great!
Next up was Chris Jamison, who is part of Team Adam! He sang the chart topping hit, “Dont,” by singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran! He had some big shoes to fill but he definitely stepped up and put on a great performance! His coach, Adam, was so proud that he stood up at the end of the song! The judges praised Chris for keeping control during the song, which had a lot of fast words and energy!
Jessie Pitts took the stage next! Blake stole this young indie artist from Team Gwen during the battle rounds. She looked beautiful while sitting on a stool and singing “Holding Out For A Hero.” She really got into the performance when she stood up and hit her amazing end note! Adam told Jessie that it was her best performance yet and we totally agree!
Georgia country artist, James David Carter, represented for Team Blake next! He sang “Two Of A Kind, Workin’ On A Full House” and the audience clapped along while he jammed out on stage while strumming his guitar! The judges were impressed with his amazing vocals and how natural he looked on stage.
Team Adam’s indie pop artist, Matt Mcandrew, took a risk by singing a Beach Boys song, “God Only Knows.” The risk paid off — the audience and the judges loved it! Gwen was almost moved to tears, she revealed after his performance. “There’s nobody like you….I have the goosebumps,” Matt’s coach, Adam, told him!
The youngest contestant in the competition, 15-year old Reagan James, sang next on behalf of Team Blake! She sang “Try” by Colbie Caillat and truly mesmerized the audience with a beautiful performance. Pharrell even said he was jealous that she wasn’t on his team!
Taylor Phelan, the indie-rocker that Adam stole from Pharrell, was the next artist to perform live for America. He decided to get back to his roots by singing, “Cool Kids.” Wow — this guy has some serious talent! Everyone was on their feet after his performance! The judges were all blown away and Taylor’s coach, Adam, was especially proud!
Exploring her dark side, Mia Pfirrmann, sang the powerful song, “Young and Beautiful.” Her coach, Adam, knew she could handle the challenge of singing a different type of song than she is use to. “I am so amazing by what you just did up here,” Adam told his contestant after her performance — we were amazed as well! She totally nailed it!
Damien From Team Adam Steals The Show With A Sam Smith Tune
The last contestant from Team Adam, Damien, took the stage to sing the Sam Smith tune, “I’m Not The Only One.” He channeled his gospel past to really give the soulful performance that Adam was looking for. The crowd literally went wild after he finished singing — it was the loudest they cheered all night! “The whole country felt that,” Adam told Damien!
Blake’s last singer of the night was Craig Wayne Boyd, the artist that Blake stole back from Gwen during the knockouts. He sang “Some Kind Of Wondeful,” and he sounded all kinda of wonderful! Gwen told Craig that she loves the power he has over the room — we agree! Blake told him how happy he is to have him back on his team!
