With True Tori seemingly on the brink of cancellation, Dean McDermott, 47, is opening up like never before in a new interview with Access Hollywood, in which he admits to seriously contemplating suicide. He was even “put on a 5150 at the UCLA psych ward” — so scary!
Dean McDermott Leaving ‘True Tori’ Over Suicidal Thoughts?
Dean has finally had enough after two seasons of blowout fights with wife Tori Spelling, 41, on their reality series True Tori. He confesses in his new interview with Access Hollywood that the soul-sucking show threatened everything he held dear in life.
“I’ve learned a lot from this whole process. From the affair, from doing the show… I almost lost everything, everything that means anything to me. I don’t want to ever do that again,” Dean explains. “I don’t ever want to be in that dark place again where I wanted to take my life…”
Dean’s suicidal thoughts weren’t just in passing — he actually made a plan to take his own life.
“I was driving around in my truck with a loaded 9 mm. I was put on a 5150 at the UCLA psych ward,” he reveals. “[My son] Liam had a performance and I didn’t want to miss that performance… I had plans that night to do it.” Thankfully, Dean has since found healthy ways of coping with his current marital issues, as well as his troubled past and childhood.
“I’m dealing with all of those things now,” he says. “It’s keeping me sober. It’s keeping me sane, addressing my depression. I’m on the right medication. Things are looking up right now. They’re good, today.”
As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, Dean revealed in the same interview that he’s leaving True Tori after the current season wraps.
“I’m not going to continue with the show,” he admitted. “We have five more shows left…I can’t do this anymore. I can’t keep opening a vein, opening my soul and sharing my feelings and thoughts and demons with the world.”
In fact, Dean is so done with the show that he can’t even bare to watch it! “I can’t. It’s really difficult…I can’t do it any more, for my soul,” he revealed in the interview.
But while it looks like the show may be ending, Dean says he’s still committed to saving his marriage with Tori. “The fact that I cheated on my wife, I wish never happened. I wish my alcohol and drug use hadn’t gotten out of control. I still love her to death and that’s why we’re still together.”
