Brittany Maynard chose to end her life on November 2 after battling terminal brain cancer for less than a year. Her husband, Dan Diaz, held her as she took suicide drugs — so heartbreaking.
On November 2, Brittany Maynard took her life with her family by her side. The 29-year-old was tucked in to her own bed, with her husband, Dan Diaz, 43, holding her in his arms as she took the drugs that ended her life.
Brittany Maynard’s Suicide: Husband Held Her In His Arms While She Took Drugs
Dan Diaz held his beautiful wife, Brittany, as she took a lethal prescription of drugs in the bedroom of her Portland, Oregon, home on November 2, according to Daily Mail.
Brittany was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma in April, and she was given just six months to live. When surgery to remove the tumor proved unsuccessful as her tumor only grew larger, Brittany and her family moved to Oregon to take advantage of their Death With Dignity Act, which would allow Brittany to end her life on her own terms.
In an October blog post, Brittany recounted the moment she discovered she was dying. “I was 29 years old. I’d been married for just over a year. My husband and I were trying for a family.”
Dan Diaz & Brittany Maynard: Their Love Story
Dan and Brittany first met in April of 2007 and tied the knot five years later. “She’s just a great person to know; a good person to be around: attractive, energetic and outgoing and just a personality you really get attracted to,” Dan told People magazine.
“Jokingly, she would say I’d certainly been single long enough because there was an age difference between us,” he said. “And ‘What’s taken me so long?’ and my answer was, honestly, that I hadn’t met the girl for me until Brittany.”
As for their wedding day, Dan explained that Brittany planned the whole thing. “Our wedding was truly special,” he said.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Brittany’s friends and family during this difficult time.
