’19 Kids & Counting’ — Jill & Derick’s Beautiful Wedding Finally Revealed
We have been waiting for this moment ALL season!
Now, finally, Jill and Derick’s wedding is front-and-center as it takes over a lengthy episode of 19 Kids & Counting.
The episode begins with a look into how Jill and Derick’s wedding came together. The couple were truly blessed when dozens of volunteers from within the community showed up to the church to help put together all of the wedding details.
While this is going on, Jill and Derick take a moment to reflect on their relationship. They tell the story of how it was Jill’s father, Jim Bob, introduced them, and how their courtship started with chaperoned Skype dates. Once they met in Nepal it was love at first sight, and when Derick returned home he quickly popped the question. Now, the rest is history!
Jill later explains that her wedding theme is “vintage” and “shabby chic.” Inside the church, which holds over 1,000 people, the wedding coordinators and volunteers designed an “outdoor” setting on the stage that will fit the entire bridal party. It’s truly beautiful!
For the reception, Jill planned for “snacks” due to the fact that it was an afternoon wedding. Most important for the bride? Root Beer floats, complete with delicious vanilla ice cream!
Derick’s Mom May Not Make The Wedding Because Of Her Cancer
Sadly, Derick’s mom, Cathy Dillard, is not doing so well.
Earlier in the season it was revealed that Cathy has cancer, and even though she has been undergoing chemotherapy and surgery, she has not been progressing the way the family has hoped she would.
Just before the wedding rehearsal Jim Bob finds out that Cathy — who he sweetly calls “Miss Cathy” — will not be able to make it in time. Unfortunately, she is just not feeling up to the trip.
Making matters even worse, Derick and Jill are unsure whether or not Cathy will be able to make it to their wedding at all. It’s heartbreaking to watch as the Duggar family prays for Cathy, and they are all rooting for her to make it to the special event.
Jill & Derick’s Families Come Together For Rehearsal
When you have 19 kids in one family alone, it’s safe to assume that you are going to have a HUGE bridal party. And of course, Jill and Derick did just that!
Derick’s groomsmen consist of his brother and Best Man, Dan, his friends Madison, Steven, his cousin Tony, and his future brothers-in-law, John and Joe.
For Jill, the bridesmaids include her maid-of-honor and older sister, Jana, younger sisters Jessa, Jinger, Joy, Johanna, and her sister-in-law, Anna.
Watching the coordinators figure out where to put everyone is hilarious, and probably one of the funniest moment of the entire episode. Don’t forget, they have two tiny ring bearers and four flower girls to also place on that stage!
Later, Jill and Derick practice the ceremony, but when it comes to their kiss — something they are saving to do for the first time ever during their actual ceremony — they sweetly blow kisses at each other as their family members giggle.
Bet they can’t wait to finally make out!
Jill & Derick Finally Take The Plunge & Get Married
After way too much anticipation, and a tearful first look, it is finally time for Jill and Derick to say their vows. For real this time!
Shortly before they got ready for the day, Jill and Derick video chatted with his mom, Cathy, and she revealed that she was feeling much better and would be on her way to their wedding. Derick tells Jill that it’s a miracle, and it’s a beautiful moment between the couple as they share their excitement over Cathy’s attendance.
Before the bridal party walks down the aisle, everyone is in tears. Literally, everyone. Jim Bob, Michelle, all of the Duggar girls. It’s a tear fest! Everyone is so excited for Jill and Derick, it’s hard not to get choked up watching them celebrate together.
When it is time for Jill to finally ascend down the aisle towards her future husband, one shot of Derick shows us that he, too, is crying. Finally, Jim Bob passes his daughter to Derick and they hold hands throughout the entire ceremony. Even their officiator makes a joke about how they refuse to let each other go!
And then.. it’s time for the BIG kiss. Their first kiss EVER. Derick quickly grabs Jill, wraps his arms around her, and they embrace into a sweet kiss. Derick takes it one step further and dips Jill backwards as the crowd erupts in applause!
But the absolute best part of the ceremony is just after they kiss when they grab each other and run out of the chapel hand-in-hand. So sweet!
