It has been 12 years since the original release of the film, ‘Drumline’ and now, VH1 has released a sequel! Nick Cannon, the film’s producer, spoke to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY about his main goal for releasing this movie! Lead actress, Alexandra Shipp, also shared her excitement with us surrounding this sequel!
Drumline: A New Beat premiered Oct. 27 on VH1! Not only did Nick Cannon produce this sequel, he also reprised his role as Devon Miles! We caught up with both Nick Cannon and the films leading lady, Alexandra Shipp, for an inside look of the new movie!
‘Drumline’: Nick Cannon Reveals His “Goal” For Sequel
“I really wanted to see the black college experience back on television,” Nick told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.
“The last time we had it was ‘A Different World,’ that Bill Cosby produced. I was like it would be really really cool to take the ‘Drumline’ brand that was so successful in feature films and bring it to television, so that’s the whole goal,” he said.
Looks like achieved his goal — the film premiered on VH1 on Oct. 27!
Alexandra Shipp “So Excited” About Drumline Sequel
Alexandra, who plays college freshman Dani, also sat down with us to talk all about her lead role! “I was so excited when I heard they were making a Drumline movie, I was a huge fan of it….it’s the best time for it.”
She went on to explain that the film will show how students really grow during their freshman year. Her character in the film tried to become the first female section leader at her college for the percussion.
