Mark Ballas and Sadie Robertson freaked us out on Week 7 of Dancing With The Stars, and not just because they were incredible — their zombie costumes were really scary! (We’re not joking around. See pic above.) The dancin’ duo blogged all about their Paso Doble, EXCLUSIVELY for HollywoodLife.com! Read on for the scoop, straight from Sadie and Mark! Plus WATCH both of their dance! Happy Halloween!
Hey Hollywood Life!
Incredible night tonight! This was my first time making it to Halloween week with a competitor — every time that I’ve made it this far on the fall season, I’ve never competed on Halloween night, so it was an awesome experience.
I loved the song by the Kongos! We wanted to do something that was like “Thriller” meets ‘The Walking Dead,’ so we felt that zombies were definitely appropriate!
I was really excited to be able to have Lindsay Arnold, Sasha Farber, Henry Byalikov, and Allison Holker be a part of the team. I’m very grateful to them for their time and effort, and being so clean and such warriors in the performance! We had a really great team around us!
I was really pleased with Sadie’s performance. I thought it was strong. I did disagree with the judges — I thought there was plenty of Paso content. If you would have seen that dance in rehearsal without all of the glamour and “Hollywood,” you would have said it was a great Paso. But with it being Halloween week, you have to work with the producers on adding the Halloween theme and style.
That being said, I thought that Peter, who is in charge of the set and design, did an amazing job at creating the graveyard. It was one of my favorite numbers I’ve ever done. It sucks not to get good feedback from the judges, but I was still very proud of it. I thought Sadie was fantastic.
I loved our team dance, too! I thought we were definitely the underdogs, but we pulled it off! It was tough, but when push came to shove, I think everyone went into it and did a great job. It was a lot of fun working with Alfonso Ribeiro, Antonio Sabato Jr. and Tommy Chong.
I’m bummed to see Antonio go home tonight because I’ve been a fan of his for awhile. On top of that, Cheryl Burke is one of my best friends, so it’s hard to see one of your comrades fall this late in the competition.
It was really hard for me to put my contact lenses in — I have a phobia about my eyes, so I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to do it or not! They ended up hiring a professional to clamp my eyes open and stick in the contacts! In dress rehearsal, it was super smooth, but in the live show, I was blind for about 15 minutes. I couldn’t see a thing! We ended up changing them and I could see again, but I was prepared to go out there and do the routine without being able to see, but luckily they fixed it!
Loved the costumes! HUGE shoutout to wardrobe, hair, makeup, and art direction! The ‘DWTS’ team did an amazing job at bringing my vision to life.
Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year, so being able to express myself this way and with Sadie was truly an honor! I’m so proud of Sadie, and I feel like the judges could have cut her a little more slack, but you win some and you lose some. Overall, I’m really happy with the night, and it’s all good!
Until next week,
Mark Ballas
PS: Sadie wanted to jump in here this week with her take on the group dance.
So we were the underdogs in the group dance this week, but we all had so much fun. You wouldn’t think I’d have that much fun with three old men, but it was SUCH a blast!
I feel like America really had our backs! We got the loudest applause after the dance! It was just amazing. I really thought we killed it, even though the scores didn’t really help us out.
We really did the best that we’ve ever done and I was super happy and proud of it!
