Jose Aldo was able to retain his UFC featherweight title at the UFC 179 event in Rio de Janeiro on Oct. 25. The 28-year-old beat Chad Mendes, 29, via unanimous decision after 5 grueling rounds of fighting.
UFC 179: Jose Aldo Beats Chad Mendes
Jose and Chad were ready to fight at UFC 179 in Rio de Janeiro. Once inside the ring, it was 25 minutes of intense, brutal fighting between these two fighters.
The fighters were able to score knockdowns, but it was Jose who was able to emerge victorious. However, Chad was able to put up one good fight. He poked Jose in the eye twice, according to MMA Fighting.
This is Jose’s 17th consecutive win. Way to go, Jose!
After 5 rounds, the score was 49-46, with Jose named as the winner. Jose talked about his latest win and commended Chad for his efforts.
“I think every fight is the toughest fight of my career,” Jose told ESPN. “I think I deserved to win. He hit me a few times but I him a lot more. But congratulations to Chad Mendes. I have respect for him, his whole team, his family. Inside [the cage] it is a rivalry, but outside we’re friends.”
