Set to hit theaters December 25, the wait for Into The Woods still feels eternal. However, a new behind-the-scenes featurette courtesy of Entertainment Weekly brings us behind the scenes of the Tony Award-winning musical adaptation and provides us with some tiny snippets of actual singing! Watch!
In the video above, you can hear Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Jack (Daniel Huttlestone), The Baker (James Corden) and his Wife (Emily Blunt) sing their song “I Wish.”
Later in the clip, we’re treated to The Witch (Meryl Streep) singing “Stay” to Rapunzel (Mackenzie Mauzy).
(Gosh, remember Mamma Mia!, you guys? Many diehard fans of Into The Woods were a little wary about Meryl’s casting due to her role in Mamma Mia!, but it’s clear by this short clip that there is nothing to worry about — Queen Meryl’s got this.)
Along with the music, though, the cast and crew talk about the movie with a kind of reverence that has us more excited than ever to see the film in theaters!
The film’s director, Rob Marshall, calls Stephen Sondheim the “greatest living composer,” which is pretty high praise coming from the man who was behind the multiple Academy Award-winning Chicago.
Meryl is just as enthusiastic about Rob, however — “Rob Marshall really is amazing. He has such a msucial sensibility. He actually has a percussive sense of movement of the piece, almost like a conductor.” Johnny Depp agrees that Rob’s approach is “very pure” and that “he’s out to make something beautiful; he’s the real thing.”
We recently got our very first look at Johnny Depp as The Wolf alongside Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford) via a series of Entertainment Weekly covers. Check out the photos in the gallery above!
So, HollywoodLifers, are you looking forward to seeing Into The Woods? Or is it not your bag? Which actor are you most excited about seeing in their role? (We’re all about Anna!) Let us know.
