Renee Zellweger debuted a shocking new look at Elle’s 21st Annual Women In Hollywood Awards on Oct. 20, and now, the public’s fixation on the 45-year-old’s face has now influenced the storyline of ABC’s Selfie. Watch the controversial clip here!
On the Oct. 21 episode of Selfie, social media-crazed Eliza (Karen Gillan), helps her co-worker, Charmonique (Da’Vine Joy Randolph), get ready for her high school reunion.
As the two women play with Charmonique’s look, Renee’s name drops!
Charmonique says, “Now, he remembers me with the Mary J. Blige, but a part of me wants to flip the script and hit him with Erykah Badu.”
“Mmm-hmm. I understand that instinct,” Eliza says. “But when you completely reinvent your look, you run the risk of people not knowing who the hell you are…i.e., Renee Zellweger, who still looks good…”
As she drops this loaded reference, a picture of the Oscar winner appears on the screen.
Charmonique retorts, “But doesn’t look a damn thing like Miss Renee Zellweger.”
We can’t tell if this is a case of art imitating life or just coincidental timing! When considering the episode was likely filmed weeks before it aired on Tuesday, Oct 21, we’d have to guess it’s the latter.
Regardless of how people feel about her new face, Renee has revealed that she’s apathetic to what people think and the negativity that surrounds her shocking transformation.
The Oscar-winning actress released a statement to People, saying she’s “happier” and “healthier” than ever, despite the rumors.
“I’m glad folks think I look different!” Renee told People. “I’m living a different, happy, more fulfilling life, and I’m thrilled that perhaps it shows.”
Renee seems to think the talk about her appearance is “silly,” but she knows she had to address it.
“My friends say that I look peaceful. I am healthy,” Renee continued. “For a long time I wasn’t doing such a good job with that. I kept running until I was depleted and made bad choices about how to conceal the exhaustion. I was aware of the chaos and finally chose different things.”
Power to you, Renee! What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Was this joke a coincidence? Tell us how you feel!
