San Francisco has banned Lorde’s hit song ‘Royals’ — for now. Two radio stations have nixed the song from the rotation until after the World Series! Sorry, Lorde — when it comes to the home team, you can’t take any chances!
Lorde, 17, is causing some commotion with baseball fans in San Francisco, and it has to do with her hit single “Royals.” Before you storm the front doors of these stations, there is a good, spirited, all-American reason behind it!
Lorde: ‘Royals’ Banned On Two San Francisco Radio Stations Until After World Series
For those who don’t follow baseball, you may not be aware that the San Francisco Giants will playing in the World Series against the Kansas City Royals. So, how does hit-maker Lorde fit into major league baseball championship?
The radio stations based in San Francisco’s bay area, KFOG Radio and 96.5 KOIT, say they’re pulling Lorde’s song “Royals” for now — until the series is over. They don’t want to jinx their home team! Aww, poor Lorde.
Before everyone calls and boycotts these stations, Kansas City radio station 99.7 The Point is stepping up and promising to play the song every hour from 7. a.m. to 7. p.m. on Oct. 21, the day of the opening World Series game at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. One station’s gain is another’s loss!
Lorde has admitted that her hit song was based off of an old National Geographic photo of George Brett in a Royals jersey signing baseballs for his fan; she even received a signed jersey from George earlier this year.
Lorde Is Such A Good Sport
We doubt that Lorde would be offended by the recent banning of “Royals” on the airwaves. Recently, South Park poked fun at the young singer and she was nothing short of a good sport about it. The show pegged her as a middle-aged man with a mustache, but that didn’t stop her from getting in on the fun!
In an interview with New Zealand’s TV3, Lorde revealed that she had been singing the song from South Park for “an hour” in her hotel room! She even belted out the verse “I Am Lorde Ya Ya Ya!”
She’s so down-to-earth and can clearly make fun of herself. We would love to see her in another South Park episode!
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Do you think that Lorde would offended by the radio stations in San Franciso? Are you tuning in to the World Series? Let us know your thoughts below!
