A possible breakthrough has been made in the hunt for missing University of Virginia student Hannah Graham, 18. On Oct. 18, police found human remains on an abandoned property in Albemarle County, Virginia, close to where Hannah attended school. Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy Longo said in a press conference that the remains have not been identified, but Hannah’s parents, John and Susan, have been informed of the discovery.
Hannah Graham’s Body Found? Police Discover Human Remains
Police made a huge development in Hannah’s case, but unfortunately, it may prove to be a tragic one. Charlottesville Police uncovered human remains in the search for Hannah on Oct. 18, and shared the news and more in a press conference.
“Thousands of hours have been spent by law enforcement and civilian volunteers in an effort to find Hannah,” Police Chief Timothy said in the press conference. “We think perhaps today proved their worth.”
“Some time today a search team from the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s department was searching an abandoned property… when they discovered what appears to be human remains.”
The body has yet to be identified as Hannah’s. The remains have been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond for examination, autopsy and identification, Albemarle County Police said in a statement.
“Right now we have the discovery of human remains and a great deal of work ahead of us,” said Col. Steve Sellers, Albemarle County Police chief. “We cannot and will not jump to any conclusions regarding today’s discovery. I ask for the public’s patience as we move forward and pursue what is now a new, ongoing death investigation.”
Hannah was last seen at the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville on Sept. 13. Surveillance videos featuring Hannah were released in a desperate attempt for clues concerning her disappearance. Police believe the last person with Hannah was Jesse. He was initially identified as just a person of interest, but police have since arrested him and charged him with abduction. Jesse has also been linked to the 2009 murder of Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington.
We will continue to update you on the latest in Hannah’s case. Our thoughts remain with Hannah’s family and friends during this difficult time.
